William Poe, based in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, is an artist with a profound educational background in art and anthropology. He holds a B.A. in Art from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and an M.A. in the Anthropology of Art and Religion from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Poe’s academic insights enrich his artistic practice, allowing him to evoke deep contemplation of human emotions and provide visionary perspectives on the natural world.
Poe’s artistic process is both intuitive and exploratory. He often begins with imagery as a foundation or lets the medium itself guide his creative journey. This approach fosters a dynamic interplay between his artistic intentions and the inherent qualities of the materials he uses, resulting in work that captures spontaneity and authenticity.
In his earlier years, Poe experienced a period of disillusionment, setting aside his artistic pursuits to comply with the demands of the Unification Church founded by Sun Myung Moon. However, in the 1980s, after leaving the church, Poe reignited his artistic passion while residing in Los Angeles. Since then, he has gained recognition by exhibiting his artwork at esteemed venues such as the Arkansas Arts Center's Delta Exhibition.
